Top 3 NFL Team Needs for NFC Teams

Rams

Team Needs: Middle-Linebacker, Defensive Back, Guard

The Rams have an important offseason coming up. After this crazy free agency period the Rams need to look to the draft and get a starting middle linebacker. This was a need in free agency that was not addressed unless you think Clay Matthews will play middle linebacker again in his career. Compounded with the loss of Mark Barron and Ndamukong Suh, the middle of this defense needs to be addressed. Beyond that the defensive secondary needs to be addressed with Marcus Peters being a liability and the loss of Lamarcus Joyner. I know what you are thinking, Eric Weddle is better even at his own age, but they play different roles. No doubt Weddle improved the safety position, but losing Joyner who played lots of slot will hurt Wade Phillips defense and restrict his scheming a little bit. Lastly, the Rams MUST replace Roger Saffold, the rest of there offensive line is still very good but one weak link can cause a disaster on an offensive line.

Cardinals

Team Needs: Left Tackle, Pass Catchers, Defensive Front-Seven

The Cardinals move into the draft process with many options, a new coach, and many needs. First of all whether Josh Rosen is the quarterback next year or Kyler Murray is drafted to be the franchise cornerstone, this team needs a left tackle in the worst way possible. D.J. Humphries has underwhelmed and never developed. Next this said quarterback needs someone to throw the ball to, Christian Kirk looks like a great number two receiver and David Johnson is still a talented back, but there are no other receiving threats at tight end and outside of the aged Larry Fitz. I would not expect any quarterback to do well in this situation no matter how talented the quarterback may be. Lastly the Cardinals need a front seven, you could argue that no one outside of Chandler Jones in there front seven would start on 80% of the other teams in the NFL.

Seahawks

Team Needs: Offensive Line, Tight End, Defense

The Seahawks go into every offseason with the same top need… Offensive Line. They refuse to address in it and it has hurt them. Maybe they will finally listen, or not we will see. Next they need to find another tight end, to complete a underrated passing core for Russell Wilson to throw to. Imagine if you gave him someone similar to George Kittle to find underneath and up the seam. Lastly the Seahawks need to draft more defensive players. I am not specifying a position because the young Seahawks defense did surprisingly well and only lost Earl Thomas who missed most of the season, with a broken leg. Now is about adding depth and quality young players to push their defense back to the heights of the Legion of Boom.

49ers

Team Needs: Corner, Wide Receiver, Offensive Tackle

The niners first of al need a miracle worker. Last years was filled with injuries to every key player but George Kittle, or at least it seemed. In the draft the Niners need to target corners to stop receiving corps of the Rams and Seahawks if they ever want to get back to the playoffs. Wide receiver, the niners need to find a true star on the outside and capitalize on Jimmy Garoppolo’s ability. They could look to the Eagles, Pats, or Chiefs, all as examples that with a dominate tight end, you must have good receivers that complement them on the outside. Lastly, the niners could look to keep Garoppolo up right a little better by investing in an offensive tackle. Yes, they drafted McGlinchey last year and Joe Staley is returning for another year but as soon as he retires, they need a replacement ready. Why not draft and development him now so he can learn from Staley for a year.

Saints

Team Needs: Linebacker, Corner, Wide Receiver

The Saints are in one of the better situations for any team in the league. They do not have any glaring needs, you have to dig a little to find one. The Saints could use a coverage linebacker to stick in the middle of their defense and shore up their defense of tight ends a little. They could use an upgrade at slot corner, possibly a veteran to slide into their younger secondary. Lastly the Saints offense would be scary with a solid second receiver, and it probably will without the establishment of a second outside receiver.

Panthers

Team Needs: Edge Rusher, Left Tackle, Safety

The Panthers have a couple of glaring needs. First, they must address edge rusher. With Julius Peppers retiring and the Panthers already needing help on the edge, they will be hard pressed to draft or trade for a pass rusher. Another glaring need is the left tackle position. With the resigning of Daryl Williams, the Panthers are set at right tackle but Matt Khalil is NOT the solution at left tackle, and neither is anyone else on the roster. The safety position is also somewhat a position of need, their safeties are older and not the greatest position on the roster. But first of all, the Panthers should address the edge rusher and left tackle.

Buccaneers

Team Needs: Cornerback, Edge Rusher, Safety

The Buccaneers need to address their defense, in a bad way. Where do I start, the secondary is a mess, corner is the bigger need over corner but safety is still not a strength. Tampa Bay was expected to draft someone for their secondary in the last draft and then did not. Look for them to finally address their leaky back end early and hopefully often. The next step would be to sure up a pass rush that relied on an old Jason Pierre Paul to get to the quarterback too often last year. Both of these issues will go a long way in fixing what has been consistently one of the leagues worst defenses. Throw in the loss of Kwon Alexander, and you are looking at below average defense with a few key aging veterans.

Falcons

Team Needs: Edge Rusher, Cornerback, Guard

The Falcons defense was ravaged by injuries last year, and played poorly because of it. Edge Rusher was a position of need without injuries and still is as Vic Beasley’s development seems to have abruptly stopped. With the Takkarist McKinley there is hope that one-star edge guy is on the roster but they cannot bank on it being him. With the return of key safeties Keanu Neal and Ricardo Allen, the Falcons need to shore the outside after a free agency where they lost their second and third best corners. With Robert Alford and slot guy Brian Poole headed out the Falcons need more talent at corner and soon. Also, a replacement for guard Andy Levitre would be nice, and potentially help their running game get back on track next season.

Cowboys

Team Needs: Defensive Tackle, Tight End, Safety

The Cowboys need to address their interior defensive line. There is not a pressing need on this solid roster, but they could use another disrupting player on the defensive line to compliment Demarcus Lawrence. While Maliek Collins has been a good defensive tackle, he is not that disrupting force that their defense needs to take the next step. Next Dallas needs to draft a young tight end, yes Jason Witten is coming back, but they need his replacement. Dallas must address this issue before its too late. Dak Prescott used Witten as a checkdown and safety net and without him Zeke’s workload increased. To be a more efficient offense and bring the best out of Dak, they need to fill this need. Lastly, Dallas could stand to add depth at safety and maybe even that would help calm a fan base that was waiting on Earl Thomas to come to town.

Redskins

Team Needs: Quarterback, Wide Receiver, Safety

Yes, the Redskins traded for Case Keenum but they can not rely quick fixes at such a pivotal position. The Redskins need to look to find their next franchise quarterback in this draft. Next that quarterback or Case Keenum will need weapons. With Darrius Guice in place at running back, the Redskins should look to invest in wide receiver a position where they have no difference makers. After the lose of Haha Clinton-Dix and the midseason cut of D.J. Swearinger, the Redskins are extremely thin at safety and realize they need to draft one. The addition of Landon Collins was big but in todays age, most teams have 3 good safeties.

Giants

Team Needs: Offensive Tackle, Defensive Line, Secondary

Assuming the Giants truly mean that Eli Manning is their quarterback next year, then I will avoid mentioning the need for a new quarterback. To get the best out of Eli and keep him from getting injured the Giants need to find another offensive tackle. Nate Solder is overpayed, arguably below average, and better suited for right tackle. To get the most out of Saquon Barkley you also need to find another tackle to help clear up the edge. Next the Giants defense needs a makeover after being bad last year and losing 2 more guys in the offseason. With Landon Collins now with the Redskins and Oliver Vernon being shipped to Cleveland the Giants need to replace them. Even with those two guys their position groups still struggled to make a difference.

Eagles

Team Needs: Corner, Offensive Tackle, Linebacker

With the Eagles trading for Jordan Howard, they seemed to have filled the biggest hole in their roster. Now they need to find some more durable cornerbacks, because as talented as Ronald Darby is, he is also extremely injury prone. They also need to find a consistent starter opposite of Darby. The Eagles also need to find Jason Peters replacement at left tackle soon. Some how him and Andrew Whitworth seem ageless. The Eagles could also afford to draft some linebackers as they lost Jordan Hicks in free agency.

Bears

Team Needs: Offensive Line, Weapons, Cornerback

The Bears offensive line is average, but to help Trubisky develop better and give him a better running game they need to invest more in the offensive line. Next to help Trubisky develop they must add some more weapons, after trading away Jordan Howard they need to add another running back. They also need a true difference maker on the outside, someone who they can rely on, a go to guy. Their current crop of receivers is solid but it is missing a true number one. The Bears should also look to draft a cornerback. The lose of Bryce Callahan will hurt and with Prince Amukamara set for free agency next year, they need a possible backup plan if he leaves.

Packers

Team Needs: Wide Receiver, Guards, Cornerback

For once the Packers spent big in free agency, and got players at positions of need. Notably Adrian Amos at safety and Preston and ZaDarius Smith at outside linebacker to rush the edge. Now that the Packers have hit on those areas of need, they must find some other wide receiver not named Davante Adams for Aaron Rodgers to throw the ball to. Then some new guards to get the running game going again and keep Rodgers clean. Lastly after addressing safety the Packers could use another cornerback to help mold a new secondary.

Lions

Team Needs: Offensive Weapons, Secondary, Edge Rusher

The Lions have a solid roster but not many difference makers. After trading Golden Tate they really need to find Matthew Stafford more guys to throw the ball to. Whether that be at tight end or receiver. Next the Lions need another difference maker in the secondary to pair with Darius Slay. Slay is one of the better man to man corners in the league but not many fans now because teams just target other players in an otherwise weak secondary. Whether they find a safety to cover up other people mistakes or a corner to lock down the other side of the field, they must get Slay help in the secondary. Even after the addition of Trey Flowers in free agency, I think the Lions could still stand to add another edge guy to put pressure on the quarterback.

Vikings

Team Needs: Offensive Line, Defensive Tackle, Running Back

The Vikings really have one glaring need their offensive line. Consistently Kirk Cousins was rushed to throw the ball and the Vikings running backs were hard pressed to find running lanes. This caused the Vikings offense to sputter for much of the season. The Vikings should look to find at least one guard and another tackle in the draft. After the loss of Sheldon Richardson in free agency the Vikings defense is going to have a to find a replacement on the defensive line but thankfully, they have depth at the defensive tackle position. The Vikings could also look to add some running back depth behind Dalvin Cook, especially with his injury history.
