The Dallas Cowboys started the offseason having needs in multiple positions and one of just got filled.

Jason Witten has come out of retirement after one year in the broadcasting booth. He was signed for roughly five million dollars. That is relatively cheap for what he could potentially bring to this team.

Signing Witten gives the Cowboys someone that is reliable on the offensive end, which last year was a problem for the Cowboys. His presence on the field will benefit in both the run and passing game. He will provide good run blocking for Ezekiel Elliot. The Cowboys had a very difficult time with the amount of injuries that were in that offensive line.

In the passing game, he is about as reliable as they come catching 71% of his targets in his 15-year tenure. This gives Dak Prescott the weapons of Amari Cooper on the outside, Ezekiel Elliot out of the back field, and Jason Witten as a security blanket. Outside of what he will bring on the field, he will benefit off the field as well.

He will bring savvy veteran leadership to a young team that lacked that kind of veteran leadership last year. Jason Witten is one of the most respected football players in the NFL. Witten will bring a young Cowboys team a reliable pass catcher and leadership that this team needs.
